Where to start, what to expect, and what not to buy.
Nobody is born knowing how to swing a golf club, and Miami is one of the easiest cities in America to learn in: year-round weather, 40+ public courses, and a deep bench of coaches who specialize in first-timers.
A good beginner coach spends the first session on grip, posture and a half-swing — not chasing distance. Expect to hit 30–50 balls with real feedback, and leave with two or three things to practice. One session is enough to know whether golf is for you; three to five sessions builds a repeatable swing.
| Format | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Group beginner clinic | $30 – $60 | Trying golf without commitment |
| Private lesson, new coach | $70 – $90 | Fastest improvement per dollar |
| Private lesson, top-reviewed coach | $100 – $170 | Learning it right the first time |
| Beginner package (5 lessons) | $350 – $600 | Committing to a real swing change |
The biggest beginner money mistake is a $1,200 club set before your swing exists. Start with a half-set or secondhand set ($150–$300), take a few lessons, and let your coach advise equipment once your swing stabilizes. Driving-range buckets in Miami run $10–$25.
Driving ranges across Miami-Dade (see our neighborhood guides) sell buckets without tee times, so you can practice what your coach assigns between lessons. Most coaches will meet you at the range nearest you — check travel radius on each coach profile.
